The North Shore Middle Years community (families with children 6-12 years of age) is supported by a number of  agencies and organizations working together to provide  programs and services to school age children, primarily in their out-of-school time

North Shore Middle Childhood Matters (MCM) Planning Table

The North Shore MCM Planning Table is funded through the United Way of the Lower Mainland. Its mandate is to increase the capacity of the North Shore to increase the capacity of the North Shore community to collaboratively provide opportunities and supports for school-aged children and their families that support social/emotional competence, physical health and well-being, and connectedness to parents, peers, school and the community.

MCM Partners are committed to a planning model that:

  • Is child and family centered
  • Is based on consensus and collaboration
  • Is inclusive, enabling all community voices to be heard
  • Demonstrates respect for community and parent expertise
  • Provides programs that reach the hard-to-reach
  • Develops programs that are research-based
  • Builds on the strengths of existing programs and relationships

MCM has a strong focus on the pre-teen years, providing and supporting programming for out-of-school time, primarily on school sites, that encourages connectedness to peers and mentoring adults; positive physical and social/emotional outcomes; and the development of community spirit.

MCM funds and supports the following programs:

  • School’s Out Project (UWLM): Out-of-School Time programming for pre-teens on the North Shore (Multiple locations.  For more information, contact Jill Nutter (jill.nutter@nscr.bc.ca)
  • Community Awareness for Respect through Education (C.A.R.E.)
  • After-School Sustainability
